Being Twenty One

It’s becoming a tradition to shoot before your birthday. How long are we keeping this up?

“I’m 21. Any advice?”

I don’t think I’m fit to give life advices at 24. It seemed like I only turned 21 yesterday, too. But here’s what I always try to remember and I wish I had known sooner:

1. It’s okay to be a YES girl

Life is so beautiful (like me and you, hehe) and also too short for fear. Take more leaps of faith, see more things, and face challenges head on. Just take care of yourself.

2. Don’t worry about making mistakes.

You will get lost, you will feel tired, you will feel heartbreak (I got my eye on you, Miguel!) and you will get disappointed mostly from the mistakes we make. But the thing with mistakes is that they have been and will always be the best teachers. What’s important is that we be accountable for them and accept that they are ours more than they are others. And then, we learn. We only end up stronger and better ladies, anyways. 🙂

3. You have to hustle hard and  stay positive

When they say “follow your dreams”, its not going to always be about comfort. Being passionate about your craft will also mean a lot of struggling, and maybe even literally blood, sweat, and tears. But in your struggles and hardships, no matter how talented you are, attitude is EVERYTHING. Treat people with respect, choose your battles, and keep your chin up.

21 is a great age and you (and Pia) are so capable of doing bigger things than I have done. Never ever be afraid! 🙂 Love you. Happy birthday. ❤
